Tommy Carrato and Alex Stezskal to start JOH

Published on May 28th, 2010

Former Archons, Tommy Carrato and Alex Stezskal, are teaming up to ride across America in the PUSH America event called Journey of Hope. They have pledged a total of $13,500 between the two of them.

The Event

The Journey of Hope is a 4,000 mile cross-country cycling event benefiting Push America, an organization created to enhance the lives of people with disabilities. The Journey of Hope crew rides from San Francisco to Washington D.C. stopping in over 50 cities across the nation, volunteering their time and presenting checks to a camp or center for people with disabilities at every location. Whether it’s putting on a puppet show, playing wheelchair basketball, or going to a dance, the team and Push America staff make sure that the Journey of Hope is more than just an endurance event. It’s an opportunity to positively affect the lives of people with disabilities across the country. Team members learn that the people they are helping are people first and it’s their abilities that characterize them, not their disabilities. The three areas of focus of Push America are volunteerism, disability awareness, and fundraising. Cycling across the country draws attention from the media and through this we are able to spread disability awareness throughout America. Team members and staff volunteer everyday on the Journey of Hope, giving their time to help enhance the lives of people with disabilities. While the volunteerism and education are the true purpose of the Journey of Hope, none of it could happen without fundraising.
