Recent Alumnus, Brother Mike Yam, finished Gear Up Florida on Saturday, June 30th. The even spanned 850 miles from Miami to Tallahassee.
From Mike’s Blog:
Gear Up Florida is an 850-mile cycling event from Miami, FL to the State Capitol Tallahassee, FL. After each day of riding between 60-100 miles we make a stop, called a Friendship Visit, at a local organization that serves people with disabilities and interact with the people there as well as give them grant money to further their amazing organization. During the journey we will mainly be sleeping in high school gymnasiums or community centers and all of our meals are provided solely by generous sponsors and volunteers. In order to participate in this event, I must reach a minimum fundraising goal of $2,500. However I wish to go beyond that and have set a personal fundraising goal of $3,000. These funds will be put towards a larger pool in which grant money can be disbursed to the organizations across the country, even locally, which serve individuals with disabilities. All other expenses are covered by me and none of these funds will be used towards paying for this trip. The only way I can make this goal is with your support. I understand that money is tight nowadays but every little donation makes a difference and I promise you, it will change someone’s life. This money goes to Push America to fund projects for like Give-A-Push Weekends, ramp building projects, and other projects at the national and local level or various organizations that serve people with disabilities. All donations are tax-deductible since Push America is a non-profit organization.
